On June 14th I will be participating in the Toronto Challenge 5km Run in support of long-care homes and services for seniors throughout Toronto. The funds that I raise will be directed to Harmony Hall/Call-A-Service. Harmony Hall is a non-profit organization in East York that provides the following services for seniors in East Toronto:
- Harmony Hall provides escorted rides to seniors who cannot otherwise use public transit or Wheel-Trans. This allows those who use the service to get to doctors appointments, go grocery shopping, and attend programs at the Harmony Hall Centre for Seniors. This type of assistance allows seniors to continue to live in their homes, instead of moving into homes for the aged.
Multicultural Recreational Programs
- Harmony Hall offers educational and social programs for their Bangladeshi, Tamil, Chinese, and English-speaking ethnic groups.
- Some of the programs include computer classes, income tax clinics, games, traditional dance, and a congregate meal program. In addition, all groups participate together in various events and trip outings throughout the year.
The Toronto Challenge is an important fundraiser for numerous agencies that assist the city's elderly. In addition to the 5km run, there are also 5km and 1km walking events which are great for family members of all ages to participate. Walk or run, I encourage everyone to join!
If event is not for you, but you would like to support Harmony Hall by sponsoring me for this event, please contact me for details.
